Was the flood of Noah’s day truly world wide? What really brought on the glaciers? What actually gave us the fossil fuel reserves that power society today? What were the forces that divided our earth into continents? A Study in Genesis: From Adam to Abraham brings the principles of science and engineering into play in the quest to find answers to some of the perplexing questions on origins in Genesis. Genesis, the first book in the Bible, is the book of origins. It talks about the origin of the universe, the earth, mankind, and our divinely appointed place in it. The veracity and authority of the book of Genesis has been challenged on many fronts. When one book of the Bible is challenged, the entire Bible is questioned, including the part that promises eternal life as a gift of God’s grace. The human spirit needs to know that the Word of God will pass every test that man can give it. A Study in Genesis: From Adam to Abraham will fortify the Bible believer with information that will clear up doubts that have been raised by those seek to undermine faith in the Bible.
“…And God said…” – The power of God’s command is here demonstrated. “Let” (God calleth those things that be not as though they were…Rom. 4:17). This phrase “…and God said” is used ten times in Genesis 1. The term “Let” is used eight times. Then “Let us make” is used in verse 26 “Let us make man in our image.” The power of God’s Word is infinite. The true believer has the faith that saves because of his faith in that same power. “3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Heb. 11:3) “Let” implies permission for something that has been carefully planned to happen. Creation had been planned in the mind of God. All that was needed now was for the time to be right to let it happen and God acted to implement His plan.
Let – speaks of an event being given permission to happen:
This word “Let” speaks of a process. Let’s consider what happened on the third day when the earth was caused to bring forth the biosphere: “11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.” (Genesis 1:11-13) This is a reference to a supernatural process in which the natural process is overridden by God’s creative ability. The mineral content of the earth was supernaturally incorporated into the living biomass that we see it on earth today. To visualize this we need to think of time lapse photography of (for example) an apple seed in soil that would germinate, sprout, grow to full development, develop foliage, bloom, and bear fruit all in one day of 24 hours in duration. This same scenario would have been repeated many time concurrently in that same day of creation week as the entire biomass of the earth was brought forth to fully functional maturity.
Those same carefully planned processes would have been duplicated on each day of creation week. If we would have been there we would have had an experience of witnessing in the formation of animal life (the zoo sphere) similar to what Ezekiel had in Chapter 37 of Ezekiel in the vision of the valley of the dry bones. Ezekiel saw as the dry bones of the dead of Israel first had sinew come upon them, and then God brought flesh upon them, and then the skin, and then God put breath in them, and the dry bones lived, and stood upright and lived. Thus we can understand how every detail of what was to happen on each of those days was planed meticulously and executed to perfection. On the second day of creation week, one would watch the portion of the water that was removed from the earth being taken up in what would be similar to what happed in Genesis 8:13 when the water that produced the flood was removed from off of the earth.
It was not that God simply said “Let it be” and it was. He used a process to bring it about. Adam would have witnessed that on the sixth day of creation week when he witnessed God create the animals as we will see it in Genesis 2:16. All of creation week involved what looked like natural processes but in a supernatural manner in that it was done by a supernatural acceleration of those natural processes. When the six days of that week was over, the earth was filled with the fully mature creation that exists to this day. The earth was filled and ready to be ruled by this new race of free moral agent – man who was charged with the responsibility to rule in it for the honor and glory of his creator.
Michael J. Tiry came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of twenty nine while in the midst of a successful career as an engineer. Michael served in the United States Civil Service as a professional engineer for 25 years. After 25 years with the civil service, Michael also started, owned and operated a private engineering company. While engaged in a career as an engineer, he also was involved with other men in the founding a local Bible believing church. His deep appreciation for having the assurance of eternal life, his passion for study, and his quest for truth compelled him to search deeply into the Bible with a desire to learn its truth that he might present the riches of God’s grace to others. Over the last forty five plus years Michael has been involved in itinerate preaching, a church planting ministry, and a teaching and preaching ministry at Berean Bible Church in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Michael also serves Berean Bible Church as director of the Timothy Institute – a Bible curriculum designed to prepare men for leadership in local churches. Additionally, Mike has been active over a span of twenty three years in a prison ministry. Michael and his wife of forty five years (Linda) have raised five daughters.
Michael has written over sixteen books which are used as study guides in the Timothy Institute. This book is one of the four that has been published. Others include You and Your Creator (2022) and More than Conquerors (2019) Super Abounding Grace (2023) and A Study in the Book of the Revelation. All are available through Barnes and Noble, Amazon and other book distributors.
